Richard Carlyle Fay, age 88, of Louisville, died September 3, 2013 at Meadowview Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Dick was born in Hartford, CT to the late Walter and Edith (Powers) Fay on September 16, 1924. In 1942, Dick was graduated from Buckley High School and enrolled at Trinity College. Dick left Trinity to join the United States Army Air Corps where he served with great pride as a pilot in World War II. While in the service, Dick successfully completed 33 bombing missions, at the helm of a B-17. After the war, he attended The Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In 1947, Dick married Marguerite "Kitt" Griffin, a graduate of The College of New Rochelle. While raising five children with his beloved wife, Richard, Sheila Hackett (Bruce), Joseph (Betsy), Matthew and Maura McIlvain (Brad), Dick worked as an Actuary in various companies in Hartford and then in Louisville and Frankfort, until finally retiring to his many hobbies in the 1990s. Dick enjoyed volunteering at the Norton's Children's Hospital gift shop for many years as well as gardening, playing bridge, carving wood, hooking rugs, genealogy and bird watching. He was a member of the Society of Actuaries.

Dick is survived by his wife of 66 years, Kitt, his five children, grandchildren Jessica Walker (Tom), Brian Hackett (Lilliana), Emily Kirsch (Nick), Kathryn Aguire (Tony), Samantha Carpenter (Bryce), Julia Fay and Maura Fay, step-grandchildren Matthew McIlvain and Laura McIlvain, great grandchild Kayleigh Kirsch and step-great grandchild Sabra Walker. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his three siblings and daughter-in-law Leona Mikolay.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Dick's name to the World Wide Fund for Nature or the National Audubon Society. Arrangements are under the care of Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village. Please visit us at to leave a condolence for the family.
