Rita A Lamkin

Rita Ann Lamkin, 87 of Louisville, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2026. She was born January 4, 1939 to the late John R. and Mary Ida Wheatley of Lebanon, KY. Rita was a clerk with JCCO prior to retiring.

Rita was naturally outgoing, welcomed the company of others, and greeted everyone with a smile. She enjoyed traveling and the many trips she took with family and friends. She especially enjoyed the trips to Gatlinburg with her siblings. She loved her grandchildren and you could always find her at their school events, ball games or various activities that they were participating in. They too have fond memories of their Mamaw and the time she spent with each of them. There was always a smile on her face and love in her heart.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by siblings Donald Wheatley, Margaret Mary Newton, and Jane Smith.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband: Maurice Lamkin; her children: David Lamkin, Kathy Smithers (Mike), and Lori Rhodes (Joe); her grandchildren: Jason, Matt, Chris, Ben, and Alexis; her great-grandchildren: Riley, Maelynn, Zoey, Theo, Belle, Mary, Amelia, and two on the way; her siblings: John Wheatley, Butch Henry Wheatley, Barbara McClain, Sara Tabor-Walker, and Steve Wheatley, brother-in-law Butch Smith and special family friend, Carol Rasmussen.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

A service will be held at 2 PM Monday, April 6, 2026 at Arch L Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd, Louisville, KY 40218. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11-2 PM. Rita will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park.
