

Bob was born on January 6, 1942, in Syracuse, New York, to the late Gregory and Lena Welch. He attended Alfred State College and Michigan Technological University, where he studied chemistry, and later earned a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Louisville.
Bob dedicated his professional life to education, teaching chemistry at Fairdale High School for 28 years. He was passionate about science and took great pride in helping generations of students learn, grow, and succeed. Following his retirement, Bob and his wife enjoyed 20 wonderful years in Florida before recently returning to Louisville to be closer to family.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Lita Welch; his daughters, Rebecca Champion (Richard) and Marie Eck Branham; his grandchildren, Jalen Ratliff (Courtney), Roderick Eck, Ryan and Emily Champion, and his great-granddaughters, Isla and Vivian Ratliff, all of Louisville; his sisters, Pat Heffron (Donnie) and Rosemary Welch, of Lanesville, Indiana, and Ethel Welch and Linda Welch, of Louisville, Kentucky; and his nieces, Tia Oram (Jeff) of Cleveland, New York, and Donna Magdziuk (Paul) of Clay, New York.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky, 40218. A funeral service in Bob's honor will follow starting at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Bob will be laid to rest in Resthaven Memorial Park.
