Robert Lee Cranna

Robert Lee "Bud" Cranna, 89, of Louisville, died peacefully after the illness of the "Long Goodbye", dementia/Alzheimer's at his home in Louisville. He was a wonderful and truly loving husband and father, and man.

He was born in Louisville on Auust 8, 1922 and passed away on Wednesday. He was preceded by his father Raymond, mother Viola, and sister, Norma Rudolph. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Iona Cranna, and his son, Rick Lee Cranna.

He served his country in World War II as a Corporal in the 592nd Air Force Special Service Division starting in December 1942, as a movie projectionist showing training films for military personnel all around the world. After his military service he married his sweetheart, a beautiful blonde that was roller skating down the street from which he lived.

As a movie projectionist in Louisville, he worked at many of the wonderful and beautiful theatres on 4th Street; the Ohio, the Kentucky, the Mary Anderson, the beautiful Rialto, and the Lowe's (United Artist and now the Palace). He retired from the Showcase Cinemas on Bardstown Road.

He volunteered at the summer picnics and bingos at Holy Family Catholic Church (member for 53 years) for many, many years, of which he loved so very much and missed as the useful years of his life were slowly taken away. He also volunteered and was a member of American Legion Post 201, Our Mother of Sorrows Booster Club, St. Barnabas Golden Key Club, St. Joseph Orphans Picnic, Sacred Heart Home, and Norton's PrimeTime.

He will be missed so very much, but he is in a much better place now, in the arms of his Father and Savior, meeting his friends and family that are there welcoming him home.

Bud's funeral mass will be at 10:00 AM Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Evergreen Funeral Home. Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to either Hosparus or the Alzheimer's Association.
