He is a proud graduate of Eastern High School, Bobby served in the United States Air Force from 1967-1969 and received an honorable discharge in 1969. He then attended Western Kentucky University. In 2000 he retired from Circuit City after working many years in consumer electronics. “His smile had a way of lighting up a room.
There was a glint of mischief behind it- like he knew something you didn’t or was just about to tell you a joke that would catch you off guard.” His love and knowledge of Kentucky basketball was surpassed by no one. We will all miss his frequent phone calls stating, “How about those Wildcats!!”
Bobby was also an old movie buff and was particularly fond of John Wayne movies and loved history, horse racing and all sports. He was a backgammon champion. His words of advice were “Don’t go out on New Year’s Eve, it’s amateur night!”
He is survived by his daughter and light of his life, Carrie Hatfield; three sisters who he loved to dance with, Jill Winston (Marc), Joy Ballage (Tom) and Misty Sprigg (Scott). He was a beloved uncle to Brie Ballage (Ben), Joshua Ballage, Sam Winston (Heide), Robert Winston (Jena), William Winston (Helen) and Scotty Sprigg.
The family would like to thank the Robley Rex Department of Affairs Medical Center Hospice unit 5 North, the staff at Jefferson Place, Visiting Angels and “Bobby’s morning coffee group" for their care, compassion and friendship.
As Bobby and his fellow troops would say to one another, “Welcome Home.” After a life of courage, love and service, he is home at last.
Memorial visitation will be held from 11 am until 1 pm on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4623 Preston Hwy.
Mr. Hatfield will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery.
