October 24, 1940 – February 16, 2026
Robert “Bob” Hungerford, 85, of Louisville, formerly of Avon, NY, passed away peacefully at home on February 16, 2026, surrounded by the family he cherished so deeply.
Born on October 24, 1940, Bob proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1963. He was named Airman of the Year in 1962. After his service, he made a career working in warehouse operations, for General Electric, and CONCO. He was known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and steady presence.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Therese (Terri), with whom he shared fifty-eight wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and enduring commitment.
He is also survived by his daughter Nicole Basham (Richie), his son Chris Hungerford (Ryan), and his brothers, Tom Hungerford (Laurie) and Jim Weden. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Fr. Dustin Hungerford, Tyler Basham (Amanda), Hunter Basham (Lauren), Walker Basham (Katie), and Mariah Basham, and also a delighted great-grandfather to Harper Rae, Layne, Kian, Isla and Bryer. His family was his greatest joy and, happily for him, his most loyal audience.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Caroline Ruth Weden and Robert V. Hungerford, and his brothers, Ronnie "Skeet" and Donald "Don" Hungerford.
Bob had a witty sense of humor and impeccable timing. He never met a story he couldn’t polish just slightly for dramatic effect. Some stories were factual, some were improved with creative license, but all were delivered with confidence. He loved to sing, often breaking into a tune when he was feeling good or when he had an audience.
He was also known for offering simple wisdom with a grin. One of his classic lines was, “No matter where you go, turn around and there you are.” Equal parts practical advice and playful observation, a reminder to stay grounded and not take life too seriously.
Whether on the farm, around the dinner table, or in the company of family and friends, Bob made ordinary moments memorable. His life was rich in service, song, humor, and love. Bob's stories will continue to be told and his voice will always echo in the hearts of those who knew him best.
Visitation will be held at Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY 40258, on Friday, February 20, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter the Apostle, 5433 Johnsontown Road, Louisville, KY 40272 on Saturday, February 21, at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor or Hosparus.
