Robert "Bob" Louis Roncarti

September 5, 1930 – April 13, 2026
Obituary of Robert "Bob" Louis Roncarti
IN THE CARE OF

Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home & Cremation Services

Robert “Bob” Roncarti, age 95, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026, at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center.

Bob was born on September 5, 1930, in Waterbury, Connecticut, to Italian immigrant parents, Amedeo Roncarti (born Roncarati) and Clementina (Falavena) Roncarti. He grew up, one of seven boys, in a close-knit family that deeply ingrained a strong work ethic, a sense of responsibility, and love of family. He lived a life of quiet dignity marked by service, faith, family, and humble generosity.

Bob proudly served this country as an active member of the United States Army, answering the call of duty during both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. His military service reflected the strength of character and accountability that guided his life. After 20 years in the Army, he served his fellow citizens for 30 years working for the United States Postal Service, where he was known for his friendliness, dependability, and commitment to doing his job well.

Bob was a devout Christian whose faith was paramount. He was a member of Westport Road Baptist Church, where he worshiped for more than 50 years. There, he happily formed lasting connections while volunteering his skills for projects such as helping to build classrooms.

He also gave his time and talents to his community. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Worthington Fire Department, near his longtime neighborhood, Barbourmeade. And he and his wife, Barbara, were among the first gardeners at the Blackacre Community Garden. Together, they helped new gardeners and he volunteered for various projects. Bob also enjoyed fishing and woodworking, and he was widely regarded as an all-around handyman who could fix almost anything. He took pride in being useful, and he found satisfaction in helping others and in working with his hands. His practical skills, patient nature, and willingness to lend a hand made him a trusted and valued presence among family, friends, and neighbors.

Bob leaves behind the love of his life, Barbara (Compton) Roncarti, his wife of 65 years; their daughter, Susan; and her husband, Stuart Fleischaker. Bob was a loving and supportive husband and father. He is also survived by a brother, Raymond; sisters-in-law Irene, June, and Donna; and many nieces and nephews, on both sides of his family, each of whom he loved. He leaves behind a family who will remember him with deep affection and gratitude for the steady presence he provided throughout their lives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers James, Alfred, Herbert, Henry, and Ronald; and by sisters-in-law Nancy and Rose “Dolly.” On his wife’s side of the family, he was predeceased by brothers-in-law W. K. “Mac” Baise and Wayne Compton; and his sisters-in-law Vashti Baise, Helen Compton, and Nancy Berman.

Bob’s life was grounded in humility, kindness, and a sincere concern for others, who will remember his smile, the gentle way he carried himself, and the warmth he extended to everyone. His memory will forever remain a blessing to all who were privileged to know him.

Plans for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to The Salvation Army, in honor of Robert Roncarti. Gifts may be made online at: https://southernusa.salvationarmy.org/louisville/financial-donations
