Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Carol Buky Welch, sons; Craig (Kelley), Mark (Linda) and Scott (Jill), his sister Lucille Allen, grandchildren; Kristen, Brandon, Evan and Marcos, great-grandchildren; Hayden, Bexley and Madeline, several nieces and nephews and his loving pet, Lucianne.
Bob was born in Shepherdsville, KY. He joined the Navy and became a Petty Officer during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Ford Motor Company for 35 years as a Senior Executive then founded and owned Welch Builders for 25 years. Bob served as both National Association of Home Builders Director and the State Association Director for many years. Along with being a land developer and an award winning Homearama builder, he served on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Building Industry Association several years and as President of the Association in 1997. He was the recipient of the Howard C. Reeves Memorial Award in 1992 and 1993 and the recipient of the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Building Industry Association. Bob was also a Kentucky Colonel.
He was a member of Southeast Christian Church and Resurrection Methodist Church.
When his sons were young, Bob was actively involved in coaching them at Black Mudd Little League and was one of the founders of Highview Little League.
Visitation will be Saturday August 11, 2018 from 2:30-7pm and Sunday, August 12, 2018 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home, 4400 Bardstown Road.
A funeral service to honor the life of Bob will be held Sunday, August 12, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of the funeral home.
