Robert Alan Zriny

Born on September 25th, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, to Rudolph and Annette Zriny, Robert Alan Zriny lived a life defined by devotion to family, commitment to his work, and an enduring spirit of generosity. He was preceded in death by his beloved sisters, Jacquline (Tom) and Patricia (Rich) Riski, as well as by his first wife, Patricia Zriny, with whom he shared thirty years of marriage.

Robert is survived by his siter Pamela (David) Scott; his devoted wife, Karen; his three children, Robert (Karen) Buren, Diane (Brian) Hargadon, and Kate (Tom) Aakre-Parsons; and his three step-children, Darby (Michael) Doyle, Yancy (Jill) Moore, and Paige (Erik) Moore-Dwelly. He was blessed with sixteen cherished grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, each a source of immense joy and pride throughout his life.

A proud graduate of Southern Illinois University, Robert earned his bachelor’s degree in business at just twenty years old while living in Carbondale, Illinois. His professional journey began in Milwaukee with Globe Union, during which he also served honorably for six years in the United States Army Reserves.

Robert’s career took him across the country, beginning with a transfer to Louisville in his late twenties. He spent twenty-five remarkable years with Vermont American, rising to Vice President of International Affairs and later President of Multimetals. In 1989, he moved to Ocala, Florida, to serve as CEO of ClosetMaid Corporation, followed by a 1993 move to New Jersy to lead Whitney Corrpak as President. In 1997, his work took him to St. Louis, where he served as President and CEO of Design Trend.

In 1999, Robert returned to Louisville and embarked on a new entrepreneurial chapter as master franchisor of JanPro for Jefferson County and five surrounding counties, ultimately launching thirty successful sub-franchises. His leadership, vision, and mentorship shaped countless careers and left a lasting imprint on all who had the privilege of working with him.

In 2004, Robert married his loving wife, Karen, with whom he built a warm, joyful, and enduring partnership. Together, they surrounded themselves with the family they adored and the life they cherished. Their adventures, traveling the world, including traveling all over the US in an orange Subaru over the past two decades, created memories that will live on forever.

Robert will be remembered for his sharp wit, steadfast determination, generous heart, and the deep love he held for his family. His legacy endures in the people he guided, the organizations he strengthened, and the loved ones who will carry his memory forward with gratitude and affection.
