Roberta Lee Smith Shelburne, 95, passed away October 19, 2013 at Signature Healthcare of Spencer County. She was born to Robert and Rachel Smith in Carroll County, Kentucky and she later moved with her family to Bullitt County, Kentucky. She graduated from Mt. Washington High School. She and her late husband, Hubert Ray Shelburne ran a large dairy farm in Eastern Jefferson County for 20 years. She worked at General Electric, Collins’ in Buechel and Ben Snyders. She was a member of the Eastern Star for 28 years. She was a former member of King’s Baptist Church and Broadway Baptist Church (at Six Mile Lane). She was attending SECC Classic Worship and Bible Class until November 2010 and was a current member of Finchville Baptist Church.
Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Freddy Shelburne; two brothers, Marvin Smith and Roy Smith; and a sister, Lillian Easley.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Linda Shelburne Rucker (Marc); three grandchildren, Lisa Ann Shelburne Kuczwara (Joe) of Jeffersontown, Ky, Charles Hubert Rucker of Palmetto, Fl, and Michael Andrew Rucker (Tara) of Columbia, S.C.; four great-grandchildren, Joshua Andrew Rucker (Jana), Amanda Renee Rucker, Joanna Kuczwara and Corbin Von Rucker; two sisters, Ruby Shelton (Fred) and Gracie Graham; two step grandchildren, Jason A. Rucker (Jessica) of Holly Springs, N.C. and Margrite “Meg” C. Rucker of Louisville; two step-great-grandchildren, Morgan E. Rucker and Alexandra N. Rucker; several very loved nieces and nephews and a barrowed daughter, Pat Bigot Devine.
A celebration of her life will be conducted Wednesday October 23, 2013 at 10 Am at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 3-8 on Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank all her wonderful caregivers over the last three years, Irene Keeling, Jessie Slaughter, Tiffany Schneidmiller, Bertha Brown, Rachel Nelson, Sheila Ashley, Sheena Hall, Samantha Schlais and to Senior Helpers of the Bluegrass.
