Roger was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and community leader whose life was defined by service, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved. In 1985, he married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart Patty, and together they built a family rooted in faith, dedication, and hard work.
Roger was the proud father of four children: Joshua (Sara), Brian (Shay), Kyle (Mary), and Hannah (Chris), and a loving Pop Pops to five grandchildren, who were among his greatest joys, Mia, Grant, Emerson, Leo, Bella. He cherished time with his family and was deeply proud of the lives they continued to build.
He also leaves behind his siblings, Tommy Abell and Pam Watson; his best friend, Greg (Shana) Woods; plus, a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky on Sunday, August 5, 1962, Roger was the beloved son of the lates’ Jessie Lee Abell and Barbara Ann Miller. He was a lifelong man of faith and a devoted member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Louisville, where his values of service, humility and dedication were deeply rooted.
Roger dedicated much of his professional life to LG&E, serving the company with unwavering commitment and pride. He first began his career with the organization in October of 1981, working through December of 1993 as a Senior Warehouseman in the Supply Chain Department. During those years, he played a key role in performing and improving warehouse operations at the Cane Run Station Plant, Trimble County Plant and the Auburndale Operations Center.
After pursuing opportunities outside the company, he returned to LG&E in February 2019. From then through 2022, he held the positions of Sourcing Assistant, Senior Sourcing Assistant, and Buyer in the Supply Chain’s Corporate Purchasing Department. In March of 2022, he was promoted to Storeroom Supervisor in Supply Chain’s Materials, Services and Logistics Department and remained at the Auburndale Operations Center. Roger remained with LG&E until the end of his life, a testament of his dedication.
He consistently gave 110% to everything and everyone, every single day.
For 23 years, Roger served as League President of Highview Youth Sports, leaving an enduring legacy that touched countless families and young athletes. Through his leadership, mentorship, and tireless volunteerism, he helped shape not only players, but character—instilling values of teamwork, discipline, and respect. His impact on the Highview community will be felt for generations. Throughout his tenure with Highview, his children were each involved. He dedicated many, many hours voluntarily.
He loved Friday night football, especially watching Fern Creek High School, and he treasured trips with his boys to Charlotte to watch football. He found joy in music as well, listening to country and classic rock, which often provided the soundtrack to time spent with his family and friends.
Roger faced cancer with remarkable strength and grace, never allowing it to define him or diminish his dedication to others. His resilience, humility, and kindness were evident to all who knew him.
He will be remembered for his steady presence, generous heart, and the profound difference he made in the lives of so many. Roger Abell leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and community that will never be forgotten.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. in the Heady Memorial Chapel of Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home - Okolona Chapel. Burial will follow in Penn Run Cemetery in Louisville. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and then again on Wednesday, January 28,2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the Funeral Hour of 12:00 p.m. also at the Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home - Okolona Chapel.
