In 1982 at Southern High School, Mr. Cruce loaned me a copy of William Faulkner's The Reivers, among other books from his shelves. I later wrote my own book, How to Write About William Faulkner. I teach English at Louisiana State University. I never forgot his kindness to me or the thought he gave to choosing titles for me or how he supported my education in literature.
