

Ruby Nell Wilkins Doyle was born in Louisville, KY on January 21, 1925 to the late Willie Richard Wilkins and Irene Julie Hill Wilkins. Ruby Nell accepted Christ at an early age and joined Young’s Chapel A.M.E Church. She was a faithful and dedicated member to the church. And often served in the 13th Episcopal District, West Kentucky, area and local divisions. She received her education from the Louisville Public School system, the University of Louisville and Spalding University. Ruby Nell worked as a high school English teacher and retired from the Jefferson County Public school system after 17 years. After retiring from Jefferson County Public School systems. She earned a Bachelor’s of Theology.
Ruby is an accomplished writer who has authored several books, most of her writings have been academic, religious or historical in nature. The most recent book is a documentary “Recalling the Record” which you can find throughout Universities and local libraries.
Ruby Nell was a vivacious social butterfly that never met a stranger. Her uplifting spirit could light an entire room. She truly valued family and the importance of family history. Ruby Nell was our family historian and has captured the families most intimate moments down to our genealogical roots through scrap booking that is now considered our families most valuable treasure that will preserve the past for future generations.
In her free time you would find her gardening and scrapbooking. Ruby was also well known for her enjoyment of the Kentucky Derby that included making Derby hats. She has successfully competed in hat making competitions in which her most media publicized hat was her dedication to black jockeys.
Ruby Nell was preceded in death by her two daughters Gwendolyn and Carolyn Doyle. Brothers Ben Wilkins, Bart Wilkins and Charles Wilkins, Sister Laura Wilkins Alexander and Irene Wilkins Smith. She is survived by Sons: Michael, Larry, and Anthony Doyle; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The Funeral Service will be Monday, February 26, 2018 at 12:00 pm at Ralph Avenue AME Church, 2501 Ralph Ave. The wake will begin at 10am on Monday at the church.
