Ruby Mae Smith, 91 of Louisville passed away February 21, 2012 at University of Louisville Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born on January 18, 1921 in Brazil, Indiana to the late Elmer Ray Hayes and Phoebe Ellen Steurwald. She was retired from General Electric and was a member of the Okolona Christian Church. She loved to needlepoint, crochet, bowl, and work in her flower garden.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Arthur Smith; a son, Samuel A. Smith; a grandson, Kenneth “Joe” Smith; brothers and sister, Fern Powers, Carl, Ray and Melvin Hayes.
She is survived by her son, Ken (Fran) Smith; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Smith; grandchildren, Robyn (Steve) Clark, Christy (Paul) Didio, Vickie Smith, Sam (Susan) Smith, Laurie (David) Greene, Jason (Kim) Smith and Matthew (Stephanie) Smith; and several great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be conducted Friday February 24, 2012 at Noon at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road with private burial in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from noon to 8 on Thursday at the funeral home.
