

She was born in London, KY., February 5, 1923. The former Ruth Lorena Egger, and the oldest of four siblings, including Elsie Hermina (“Babe”) Goins, Anna Marie (“Mickey”) Hartloff and Ernest Albert (“Bud”) Egger. She was the beloved aunt to five nieces and nephews; Richard Alan Egger (Lisa), Joni Marie Dalton, Brenda Lea Mills (Darrell) Nancy Marie Hartloff and Leonard Hartloff (Loretta). She was also the beloved aunt to her great-nephews, Sean Egger, Brandon Egger, Justin Slaughter, Cameron Dalton and one great-niece, Courtney Middleton. Rain was also blessed with two great great-nephews; Ashton Slaughter and Camden Middleton.
After Rain’s first husband passed away, she met and married the love of her life, Robert L. James, on July 2, 1960. They loved each other, and their families with all their hearts, and their families returned their devotion. Although Bob preceded her in death by over seven years, they shared the eternal kind of love that all people hope for. Her family and friends take great comfort knowing that they are now together again.
Rain was a 1940 graduate of Louisville Girls High School, and after graduation worked as a telephone operator at AT&T, and later as a switchboard operator at General Electric. Her true passion in life, was the love of her family and good friends, all of whom were blessed to know her, and will remember her that way, forever.
The family would like to thank Elmcoft of Mount Washington, for taking such good care of Rain in her most recent years, and to Franciscan Healthcare of Louisville, along with Hosparus, for helping make the last days of he transition as gentle and peaceful as possible.
A funeral service to celebrate Rain’s life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2017 in the chapel of Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd. with entombment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Guests are invited to attend a visitation after 12 noon until service time at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Hosparus of Louisville or the Okolona Presbyterian Church.
