

Ruth Jones Rice was born in Norfolk, Virginia on August 31, 1931, and was raised by her aunt, Lillie Mae Harris. She attended Norfolk schools and moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where she met and married Carl L. Rice in 1965. Ruth became a loving and supportive Step-Mother to 8 adult Rice children and grandmother to several grandchildren. Husband, Carl L. Rice; Step-Son, Edward Rice and Step-Daughter, Richadine Rice Gore proceed her in death.
Ruth professed her love for the Lord at an early age and was baptized and joined church in Norfolk, Virginia. She joined Hill Street Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky, where she was an active member with the Sunday School and Senior Missions until her health no longer permitted her to attend.
Ruth loved her family and especially the grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to travel to visit family and friends. All of the grandchildren lived out of state therefore; many summers Grandma Ruth and Grandpa Carl would have all of their granddaughters visit for a few days and then the grandsons. The children looked forward to their summer visits to Louisville and she always looked forward to their arrival by planning fun activities for them.
In 2009, she moved to Indianapolis, IN to be closer to family. Ruth will be remembered for her sweet smile, love of children and her appetite for chicken. Ruth also loved the TV Soap Operas and would often talk about the TV characters as if they were her family members.

Rice, Sr. (Peggy) Indianapolis, IN; Jerry Rice Mabry, Tucson AZ; Joyce Rice Saunders (John) Washington, DC ; Natalie Rice Wright (Donald) Atlanta, GA; David Rice (Toni) Panama City, FL; Daughter-in-law, Joyce Rice, Kokomo, IN ; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and many cherished friends.
Funeral Services to honor Ruth's life will be conducted Friday, September 18, 2015 at 11:00 am at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road with entombment in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 11-12 on Friday at the funeral home.
