Sammy Ray Hampton, age 76, passed away on August 4, 2026. He was born on September 21, 1949, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Ellis and RenaVae Hampton. Sammy was a member of Farmdale Baptist Church. He worked for General Electric for 41 years until his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, fishing, going to the lake, and boating. He was a huge fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats, a lifelong member of the Big Blue Nation. Sammy had a great sense of humor; he was always lovingly teasing his family and friends. The absolute light of his life, though, was his grandchildren. Sammy treasured every moment spent with them, pouring his love, guidance, and support into their lives. He will be dearly missed.
Along with his parents, Sammy is preceded in death by his brother, Roger E. Hampton; and the mother of his son, Myrna Prather.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Earl W. Hampton; his sisters, Carolyn A. Grey and Deborah Hampton; his brother, Richard “Ricky” Hampton; his grandchildren, Samantha R. Coater (Brian), Evan W. Hampton (Taylor), Jacob M. Hampton (Tori), and Emma G. Hampton; and his great-grandchildren, Christian M. Curtsinger, Corey M. Curtsinger, and Cole M. Coater.
A visitation for Sammy will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home in Louisville, Kentucky on Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 2:00PM to 6:00PM. A funeral service will be held in the same location the following day, Monday August 10, 2026, beginning at 11:00AM. He will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions in Sammy’s name to be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
