

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was in the transportation industry, having worked for Yellow Freight and retired from Federal Express in sales and management. Samuel served his country proudly in the United States Army. He was an active member of Christ Church United Methodist. He was a member of various professional organizations. Samuel was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity where he enjoyed working on mission trips to better the lives of others. Sam was a graduate of Eastern Illinois University with a degree in Business. He as well loved traveling and fishing with friends and family.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife , Pat McDowell; daughter, Whitney Potter (Todd); eight siblings, J.D. McDowell, Glenna Harrison, Sue Murphy, Judi Humphrey ,Dena Hartke, Donna Tatman, Tom McDowell and Jerry McDowell; two grandchildren, Caroline and Mason.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Nathan and a brother Carl Ray McDowell.
A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 1:00 P.M. in the sanctuary of Christ Church United Methodist, 4614 Brownsboro Road. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Burial with military honors will be in Louisville Memorial Gardens East.
Memorial gifts may be made to Christ Church in memory of mission trips of Sam McDowell or Christ Church United Methodist.
