Sarah Ellen Metcalf Wallace, passed away suddenly in her home Saturday morning, November 9, 2013. She was born November 12, 1926 in Hazard, KY to Robert and Pearl Metcalf. Her family moved to Louisville in 1936 and she has resided here since that time. It was during World War II that she met and married her husband, Perc A. Wallace who predeceased her in 1986. Their marriage produced eight children all of whom survive her. In addition to being a full time mother, she worked at Bernheim, Schenley and National Distilleries. She loved to dance and travel, loved her puppies, Peppy and Poppy, was an avid “speed” reader, always cooked for ten, never forgot a birthday or special occasion, doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was thoughtful and generous, staunchly independent and very fashion conscious. Her sisters, Etta Graham, Katherine Druen and JoAnn Brown survive her as do her six sons, Philip (Elaine), William, Grant, Charles, Perc and Joseph, her two daughters, Katherine Wallace and Elaine Wallace Colley (Jack) and her many grandchildren. All of us will miss and remember her forever. Her funeral service will be on Wednesday, November 13th, at noon at the Arch L. Heady Southern Funeral Home, 3601 Taylor Boulevard, with interment following in Zachary Taylor National Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1pm until 8pm. The family asks that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness.
