He was born October 24, 1977 in Tampa, FL, the son of Louie and June (Montgomery) Bailey.
Sean always had a strong interest in music, beginning with Suzuki violin lessons at the age of 4, continuing with piano lessons, drum and percussion lessons, and learning to play the String Bass. He was a member of the Ballard High School Marching Band, Concert Band, and Orchestra. He sang in the Youth Choir at Crescent Hill Baptist Church, and played main roles there in the Broadway musicals JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING COLOR DREAMCOAT, GODSPELL, and NARNIA. In addition to his traditional instrument training he liked to rock out. He and his brother Evan had their first band together when Sean was in middle school. Over the years (1989-2009) they played in the following projects with Sean beating the skins; Oratory Striplings, Turmoil, Plunge, Lanai, Spritely and on occasion would fill-in on some songs with Second Story Man.
In addition to being an immensely talented musician he was an integral part of the Louisville music community in other ways too. Sean is heavily remembered for lifting up his fellow musicians and giving them a voice and platform in addition to the impact his Louisville MUSICulture social media pages made between 2012-2015.
Sean’s greatest gifts were his infectious personality, perfect smile and the love he exuberated to every human being he crossed paths with. Nobody walked away from a conversation with Sean feeling bad about themselves.
He received a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors in Anthropology from UofL in 2010 and always was looking for anthropological connections in the world and society. He also was a graduate of the Code Louisville program. His employers in Louisville were Ear X-tacy Records, Headliners Music Hall, Production Simple, SonaBLAST!, Live Nation, The FleaOff Market and his beloved Quest Outdoors.
Sean had an insatiable mind and was always wanting to learn and grow in many fields, from politics to pop culture. He loved listening to WFPK and WFPL radio stations and was an outstanding writer as well.
His love and passion for the mountains and snowboarding called him to live out in Steamboat Springs, CO twice in his lifetime (1999-2003) and then again from 2019-2023 where he worked for Powder Pursuits Ski and Snowboard shop and Big Agnus/BAP! Inc. Outdoor Equipment Store. Even though 1200 miles from Kentucky he still had his finger on the pulse of Louisville music and worked digitally from afar for the local label, SonaBLAST! Records, where he was the Marketing Coordinator and Social Media Manager. In addition to his love for Winter sports he also enjoyed hiking, fishing, biking, could throw a mean frisbee and if playing with kitties and his love for the movie, Office Space were sports, he was great at those too.
He was very close to his brother Evan, and considered him his very best friend and confidant. He will be incredibly missed by so, so many who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Louie and June Bailey; one brother, Evan Bailey; ex-wife, Laura Marie Read; an aunt, Esther Davis; cousins, Ben Davis, Stephanie Davis Burnham, Tony Kent, Rebecca Gilbert, Kathy Richards, Josh Cain, Jill Cain and long-time friend, Missy Lewis Longton.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Laura Lunsford and Shannon Montgomery, and his paternal grandparents, Mattie Bailey Morris and Mitchell Lee Bailey, and two aunts, Martha Gilbert and Mara Cain.
