Shawn Christopher Vega Velez

Shawn Christopher Vega Velez, 52 of Louisville, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. Shawn was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky on April 28, 1972, to Herifonso and JoAnn Vega Velez. He was the youngest of their four children.

Shawn attended Carter Elementary, Jefferson County Traditional Middle School, and Louisville Male Traditional High School. He also attended Jefferson Community College and McKendree College.

Shawn’s first job was at Great Financial Federal Bank and from there he went on to work at the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office, Division of Child Support where he met Jacquelyn “Jackie” Alexander who would later become his wife. Later Shawn would go on to work for Washington Mutual, Papa John’s Corporate, and Louisville Water Company.

Shawn and Jackie were married March 18, 2000, at Lampton Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. Shawn was an avid fan of the University of Louisville Cardinals, Dallas Cowboys, soccer, and food. Anyone who knew Shawn knows how much he enjoyed all types of food. Shawn was a history buff and loved to engage in conversations about history and politics. He was very outgoing and enjoyed talking with people.

Shawn is preceded in death by his father, Herifonso Vega Velez, sister-in-law, Kelty Genae Dave, as well as a number of aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jacquelyn Vega Velez, his mother, JoAnn Vega Velez, his mother-in-law, Betsy Clay, his siblings, Herifonso Vega Velez, Nedry Vega Velez (Marissa) and Jolanda Vega Velez (Timothy), as well as nieces and nephews: Jolanda Jones (nee Vega Velez), Jazmin Vega Velez, Jara Vega Velez, Phillip Vega Velez, and Leeander Thompson, Jr, and many other extended family and friends.

A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday March 15, 2025, from 10am - 12pm at the Arch L. Heady at Resthaven. 4400 Bardstown, Louisville KY 40218. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 12:00 pm in the chapel.
