Shirley Brom, 92, passed on December 8, peacefully in her home in Louisville, Kentucky, the way she always planned. Left to honor her legacy are her cherished family - sister Linda Eoff Linderer; children, Debbie Callahan, Merry-Kay Poe (Steve), and William Brom (Tanya); grandchildren, Julie Bailey (Steven), Jeannie Miller (John), Brent Hilbert (Kasey), Stephen Brom, Irini Brom, Evan Brom, Marek Poe, McKenna Poe, and Seth Poe; great-grandchildren, Landon, Brooke, Curtis, Jaxon, and Nolan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Brom, who was the love of her life and her greatest champion.
Born in Maplewood, Missouri, Shirley was the daughter of Everett and Vivian Eoff. She was a graduate of Brentwood High School in Brentwood, Missouri. A grade-school teacher and a leader in the Girl Scouts, she retired to Dunedin, Florida in 1990, where she loved oil painting, writing stories, and walking on Honeymoon Island Beach with her beloved Ed. They later moved back to Louisville to be with their family.
Shirley was an independent and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose strength and character was a model through the generations. An advocate for the strength of women in the world, she was also a beloved and respected friend, teacher, and community volunteer. She always showed up for her family, no matter how small the event. From games to recitals to concerts and everything in between, if she could attend, she would, and if she couldn’t, she’d watch the video and call you later to congratulate you.
A private celebration of her life will be held on December 19th in Prospect, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations in her name be made to Multiple Sclerosis Association http://www.nationalmssociety.org/ or The Red Cross https://www.redcrossblood.org/ .
