Shirley Anne (Sluder - Chadwick) Elgin

Born in Louisville, Kentucky on January 16, 1940, Shirley was the daughter of Leonard Sluder & Lue Dellie Herron & the step – daughter of Warnie Johnson. She was a retired School Teacher of 35 years, beginning in 1965 up to her retirement in 2000. Throughout her tenure, she served in public schools, private schools, and even at a military base school in Heidelberg, Germany. During her career, she fought for, advocated & won, equal pay for female teachers at a Louisville area private school. Shirley loved to travel, making her way across most of Europe and Israel. She was a Devout Christian, serving with her second husband as a traveling minister from 1999 – 2009. Shirley was an avid reader & amateur poet. She didn’t always have the best filter, and was known to speak her mind, for good or ill. Above all, Shirley loved her children and worked exceptionally hard to provide as a single mother throughout the 80’s and 90’s with strength, perseverance and dignity.

Besides her parents, Leonard & Lue; her stepfather, Warnie; husbands, Bill & Hugh; her daughter, LueAnne; her brothers Brackney & Herold, precede Shirley in her passing.

Left to cherish her memory are son, Leonard C. & daughter – in – law, Brittney; her son – in – law, Paul; grandchildren, Nathaniel & Mary Lue; stepchildren, Lori Reyes and Brian Elgin; sisters – in – law, Aletha & Jeanette, and her cousin, Cassie Campbell.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the Dignity Chapel of the Evergreen Funeral Home. Shirley will be laid to rest in the Mausoleum of Normandy Chapel of the Evergreen Cemetery & Garden Mausoleums. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the Funeral Hour of 1:00 p.m. also at the Evergreen Funeral Home.
