Shirley was predeceased by her husband David “Big Dave” Kamber and her siblings Doris, Joyce, and David Mercer.
She is survived by her children, David (Michelle), Lisa Schlich (Tom), Steve (Donna), Terri Gettelfinger and Kim Minniear; siblings, Mike Mercer, Donald Mercer, and Kathy King; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
A very bright student, she willingly sacrificed college and a potential career to raise her family. In fact she had 5 children by her fifth wedding anniversary and poured her heart and soul into their development. She continued to watch Jeopardy and wheel until the week she died and finished the daily crossword puzzle until the time of her death. She never lost her sharp wit nor her incredible recall until the end. She loved all things Kentucky Wildcats and had quite the wardrobe to prove it. She enjoyed playing Pinochle and going to the casino with her friends and family. In fact, after years at home with her house full of children, she would in her later years go anywhere with anybody to see anything. More than anything she loved being with her family and friends and her happiest times were when the whole family was together, either for a full week in Florida at Christmas or a few hours together celebrating an important life event or celebrating nothing at all.
Shirley’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Athanasius Catholic Church on Friday August 28 at 10:00 am with a 1 hour visitation prior to mass in the church.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
