Susan Downard Asseff

Susan was born on October 23, 1948, in Louisville, Kentucky. She was a graduate of Atherton High School and the University of Kentucky. Susan dedicated her career in service to others as a compassionate social worker with the Commonwealth of Kentucky and for 23 years with Highlands Community Ministries at Highlands Court Apartments.

She was a lifelong member of Edenside Christian Church and also attended services with her family at St. Michael Orthodox Church.

Susan’s family has never known anyone more kind, loving, and caring to people in need. Her warm and comforting presence will be tremendously missed.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Harland and Dorothy Downard.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her husband of 53 years, James J. Asseff, Jr.; her children Derek Asseff (Martha) and Brent Asseff; her grandchildren Caroline Asseff, Leander Asseff, and Martha O’Neill; twin sister Carolyn Rainey (Bob) and brother John Downard (Mary Alexander); and nieces Jenny Rainey and Ashley Donahey (Mark).

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 28 from 3-7 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, October 29 at the Resthaven Chapel. She will be buried at Cave Hill Cemetery.
