Thelma Marie Tinker was born an only child to Louis B. Hicks and Florence M. (Jent) Hicks in Louisville, Kentucky on March 6, 1942. She lived vibrantly, cared genuinely, and loved selflessly with no “off switch” for 82 years until May 17 when she peacefully transitioned from our physical world to join those awaiting her in heaven. Surrounded by family, she spent her final precious days, hours, minutes, and seconds in an abundance of love with little suffering.
Sweetheart, Momma, Mom, Grandma, Nana, (Aunt) Timmi, Mrs. T, Big Red is survived by her adoring husband of 63 years, Charles Tinker, and four children who imitated her to become the best version of themselves. Monica Russell (Greg), Denise Houck (Bill), Brian Tinker (Renee), & Cheri Kalilikani (Joe) and so many others will miss her smile that lit up any room; her infectious laughter that filled our hearts with joy; and her loving hugs that made us all feel safe. She cherished her 10 grandchildren, 4 Step Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great Grandchild, 18 Nieces & Nephews, in-laws, and many close and treasured friends.
Thelma graduated from St. Raphael The Archangel elementary school followed by Assumption High School and Louisville Beauty College before relocating to Southern California with Charles in 1961 to start a family and build her life. She trained as a cosmetologist before opening her own beauty parlor in her kitchen for the next 17 years – combining haircuts with homework assistance, mothering, & spousal support. Timmi doted on her husband and would do anything for her children. She loved her role as wife & mother and devised schedules to live more efficiently, parent more effectively, and love more entirely. She forged special sister-in-heart relationships with family members and girlfriends and created moments for all to appreciate as they fade into memories to hold in our hearts forever.
Timmi was the Office Manager for Tinker & Tinker, side-by-side with Charles for 27 years making sure their color coordinated outfits matched completely and their work/life balance aligned perfectly. Timmi served on the women’s council at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic parish in Pasadena, CA and dutifully maintained order on the school playground as a parent aid. The kids all loved and admired her.
Through her kindness and passion for what’s good and what’s right, Timmi built a large family of loved ones who will carry forward her messages of love, compassion, and truth. God Bless you, Timmi. We will miss you so very much until we meet again. May your Soul Rest in Peace.
