

Tony Raymond Garcia passed away on April 25, 2025, in Louisville, KY, at the age of 95. Born on December 22, 1929, in Fairmont, WV, to Manuel Garcia, Sr. and Elvira Alvarez-Garcia, both of whom predeceased him.
Tony grew up in Fairmont, WV with his siblings Manuela, Manuel, Jr., Joseph, and Fred, all of whom have since passed away. He found his lifelong partner in Janet Garcia, and together they shared 67 years of marriage filled with love and mutual respect until her passing. Their union was blessed with three children: Sharla Jones, Larry, and Stephen. While Sharla and Larry preceded him in death, Stephen (Darlene) continues to carry on the family legacy in Georgetown, KY.
Tony was a proud grandfather to Randi Jones of Louisville and Rachel Stanley of Lexington, KY. His family circle extended to his nephews David Garcia of Bridgeport, WV, Rick Garcia, and Robbie Garcia of Fairmont, WV, Mike Garcia of Fairmont as well as his nieces Patty Garcia-Branham of Hoffman Estates, IL, and Sue Garcia of Fairmont, WV. His son-in-law Bobby Jones, and dear friends Janet and Don Pearson.
After graduating from West Fairmont High School in 1947, Tony attended Fairmont State College for a year before answering the call of duty. He served his country with honor in the U.S. Navy for 16 months, stationed on the USS Roosevelt aircraft carrier.
In 1964, Tony moved to Louisville, KY, where he embarked on a successful career with the First National Bank of Louisville. He dedicated 21 years to the bank, retiring as a Vice-President, a role in which he was known for his integrity, leadership, and wisdom.
Tony's passion for sports was a defining aspect of his life. He played baseball and fast-pitch softball, leaving a legacy on the field that was admired by many. His love for the game extended beyond playing, as he became a high school referee for football and basketball. He also coached his sons in Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, instilling in them the values of teamwork and perseverance. Golf was another of Tony's joys, and he could often be found on the green, enjoying the camaraderie and challenge of the game.
Tony's life was one of active engagement and joyous participation. His involvement in sports, his career achievements, and his service to his country were all facets of a life lived with purpose and passion. Yet, it was his role as a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend that truly defined him. His legacy is one of love, commitment, and the countless lives he touched with his generous spirit.
A visitation for Tony will be held Monday, May 5, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM, followed by a a celebration of life at 1:30 PM.
