She was born to the late Catherine and Raymond Wate in New Albany, Indiana. Also preceding her in passing is her husband, Lewis D. Deen and six siblings; Mona Nance, Jean King, Jane Losson, John Wate, Don Wate, Millie Best.
Vera was an active member at Calvary Nazarene Church over 60 years and was a Sunday school teacher. She didn’t work out of her home but did babysit many, many children over the years. Also raised Lucretia Gantner from a baby until she was 10 years old to help her mother out that worked late hours. Vera treated her just like one of her own. Vera was one of the kindness and most loving woman that would do anything for anyone. She never had a bad word about anyone. She taught us all unconditional love.
Here to cherish her memory are her children; Wanda Eisenback Russell, David Deen, Catherine Deen, Patty Floyd (dec.William), Pam Ponder-David, and Beverly Baker (dec. Timothy), nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren and two siblings, Stella “Totsy” Stark and Martha Philpot, along with many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will occur on Friday, December 9, 2022 from 12-2PM with a Celebration of Vera’s life to follow at 2:00PM. Services will be held at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd. Louisville, KY 40218.
