Verna Elizabeth Sauer

Verna Elizabeth Sauer, 84, of Louisville passed away on July 31, 2023. She was born on July 2, 1939 to the late Joseph and Elizabeth Fritsch. She is preceded in death by her husband of 38 years Lawrence G. Sauer Sr., children; Lawrence G. Sauer Jr., Jerome L. Sauer, Mary E. Alvarado, and Donald J. Sauer. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters; Cuma Theresa Sauer “Susie”, Joan McGinnis (Joey), Verna G. Ritter “Gail”. Verna also had 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends.

Verna was always known as the strongest person. She enjoyed taking long walks in the neighborhood and planting flowers. Roses were always her favorite. Verna was devout Catholic who spent her time volunteering at church and never missed a Sunday service at St. Francis of Rome. She graciously worked at Brownsboro Hills Nursing Home for 23 years. When she wasn’t volunteering she could be found cheering on her beloved UofL Cardinals or enjoying an old Elvis album. She will be deeply missed by many.

A funeral service for Verna will be held on Saturday August 12, 2023 at 2pm in the chapel of Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home 2428 Frankfort Ave. Louisville, KY 40206. Visitation will be prior to service from 10am-2pm. Burial will take place at St. Stephens Cemetery 1808 S Preston St. Louisville, KY 40217 at 3pm.
