She was the former Viola Herbig, a native of Louisville. Viola was born on October 6, 1912 to William and Wilhelmina Herbig.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Mathis and her son Gordon Mathis. Viola also was preceded in death by her brother Buddy, sisters Jeanie Kinberger and WIllow, step-sister Mitzi Middleton, and step-brothers Russell and Georgie Herbig.
Viola is survived by her daughter Judy Brown, two granddaughters Marcy McAllister (David) and Stacy Strebel (Jeff), and five great-grandchildren Rachael, Christen, and Lynsey McAllister and Jacob and Autumn Strebel.
Services to celebrate Viola’s life will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2013; her 101st birthday. Visitation will be held from 12 – 3pm with the funeral service following at 3pm at Evergreen Funeral Home.
