Virginia Lee Dick passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 3, 2023. She lived a life full of family, music, art, laughter, dancing, and beating her friends at cards, inspiring all who met her to seek the joy of life.
She was born on May 2, 1924 to Roy Jackson and Viola Mae Jackson in Louisville. Virginia was an only child and her father died when she was sixteen. She attended Girls High School, and trained and worked as a bookkeeper after high school, providing for herself and her mother. She loved to go to dances and shows around town, and was a big fan of big band music. She met the love of her life, Bob Dick, and they had much fun together with their group of friends and on his fishing boat. They married in 1950, and had a wonderful life together full of family and friends, travel and adventure.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son Bob Dick. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Lobb (Jim); daughter-in-law, Martha Dick, nephew, Mark Smith (Cathy); grandchildren Michael Dick, (Kristy), Emily Dick, Erin Mason (Will), Daniel Lobb (Mathilde), great nieces, Sarah Simich (Chris), Julie Eaton (Erik), and great grand-daughters Charlotte Dick and Savannah Dick.
Virginia was a loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. In her 98 years, “Grammy” lived many sun filled days, exhibiting a strength and resilience founded in joy that we can all aspire to. She showed us how to dance through life’s twists and turns. In the month before her death she was entertaining family on piano, playing cards, playing with her great-granddaughters, and teaching her grandson how to jitterbug.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023 from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. and resume on Saturday at noon, at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home, 4400 Bardstown Rd. A service to honor the life of Virginia will be held on Saturday at 1 PM at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park.
