Virginia “Ginna” Marrillia Monroe, 87, of Crescent Hill, loving mother, Me Me, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great-Great Grandmother passed away Friday, July 29, 2011. She was retired from Churchill Downs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Gumps” Monroe; her parents, Emile and Stell Marrillia; two son-in-laws, Mike Cornell and Tim Vaile; a daughter-in-law, Sue Monroe; a Brother, Butz Marrillia; and two sisters, Mildred Gray and Patty Lou Werner.
She is survived by her 12 children; Charles Gordon, Doug “Porky,” Irvin, Scott, Paul (Fi Fi), Sandy Cornell, Virginia (Lenny) Wessel, Barbara (Jimmy) Allman, Margaret Vaile, Charlotte, Shirley Ann and Patty Monroe (Donald); 15 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren and one Great-Great Grandchild. She is also survived by her siblings, Evelyn Greenwell, Sam Marrillia, Shirley Berg, Pete Marrillia, Carolyn Dye and Nancy Nichols.
A service to celebrate the life of Virginia will be held at Noon on Monday August 1, 2011 at Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home 2428 Frankfort Avenue with burial at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-8 at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy are suggested to the National Kidney Foundation.
