Walter Richard Feldt, 91, of Louisville, KY passed away on Saturday, March 26th, 2022, at the age of 91. After a short period of declining health, Walter died at Baptist East Hospital surrounded by the love of his life, Catherine, his children, and grandchildren.
Walter was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 19th, 1930 to Henry and Emma Feldt. He was the youngest of 9 children. Both of his parents were deceased soon after he was born; he survived the house fire his dad died in. He was raised by an aunt until age 5 when he went to live with his sister, Selma. He grew up around his siblings and nieces and nephews.
Walter attended the Henry Ford Trade School and after graduating, joined the U.S. Air Force, where he was an aircraft mechanic. It was in the Air Force that he met his wife, Catherine. They were married 68 years and had 2 sons and 2 granddaughters.
After his time in the Air Force, Walter and his family returned to Detroit, eventually moving to Louisville. He worked for Ford Motor Company for 40 years as an automotive engineer. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Jtown, KY.
He was a kind and humble person, always worried about others before himself. After his retirement, he continued to volunteer for organizations Dare to Care and Meals on Wheels. He and his wife loved to travel, and some of their favorite places to visit were Sarasota, Florida, and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. He loved to eat good food and always supported the local restaurants in Louisville. Most of all Walter loved to spend time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his sisters Minnie, Emily, Martha, Selma, Clara, and Alma; and brothers, Albert and Rudolph.
He is survived by his wife Catherine Feldt, married on October 4th, 1953; sons, Bruce (Betty) and Steve (Linda) both of Louisville, KY; and granddaughters, Dara (Aaron) of Louisville and Justine (Trevor) of Nashville; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He will be profoundly missed.
