Unfortunately I only just learned of Scott's passing.  I first knew him as a labor arbitrator.  He was one of the best and would cut through all of the confusion - but always allowed the parties to have their say.  Later, I knew him as a law professor teaching Property.  He was so well organized and, as others have stated, and showed a good sense of humor.  "Mr. Hatfield, have you ever lusted after another person's property?" As a professor myself, I often have reflected back upon his approaches to making class helpful to students.  We miss you.  Thank you.

When I think of my time in law school Prof. Thomson is one of the first faces that comes to mind.  As students we were asked to evaluate our faculty members in a variety of areas, one was, "Is a positive role model in the legal profession", I always gave Prof. Thomson the highest mark I could in this.  He was a lawyer's lawyer and a great teacher.  My condolences to his family - he made a difference.

I very much valued Scott as a professor when I was in law school, and also as a labor arbitrator after I entered private practice here in Louisville.  Finally, I also valued him as a neighbor.  He will be missed!

The time when Scott Thomson was Associate Dean at the University of Louisville Law School was an important era in the growth of the law school.  Scott’s door was always open to students and faculty.  Scott gave thoughtful and encouraging advice to many students.

At the same time, Scott taught one of the more difficult law school subjects, Commercial Code, and he was always prepared.  Scott’s students spoke highly of his spirited classes.

I know the family has sustained a great loss.  My condolences to Scott’s family.

You are in my prayers at this difficult time. I will miss seeing Scott on the patio. I know you have wonderful memories of your life together.  It does take time to adjust to life without your best friend. We will have to get together for lunch in the near future.  Only time can really help.  I look forward to seeing you soon.

Scott was my adopted Father (as I would call him), mentor and friend.  He help Susan, me and my family not only through though difficult years through school and work, but in our world today. We certainly have missed Scott since he left the Law School.  I loved his sense of humor; that gruff voice didn't fool me.  He spoke of you and Patricia often.

(I still see him perched one leg on the lecture table smoking his pipe...)

Professor Thomson didn't try to tell us how to become lawyers...he showed us and we learned by watching...articulate, well-reasoned...and always the gentleman in his interaction with us.

His teaching lives through hundreds of us...

Dear Sylvia,
It was with great sorrow that Lera and I learned of Scott's passing.  He was a great part of my early time in legal education.  Just as he had a great impact on his students, he had a lasting impression for the good on me. Even though we were teaching together, I was actually a student of his (especially regarding how law schools and universities work).  I have great memories of many wonderful lunches together (he was into steak and eggs "extra, extra well done" in those days).  

I know this is a difficult time for you and your family, and all of your are in our prayers.

 My sincere sympathy to Scott's family and friends.  He was a colleague for three decades on the law faculty.  When I came as a new law teacher, he reached out and taught me about law teaching.  His focus on teaching and training lawyers to serve the people of Kentucky helped to balance distracting emphases from inside and outside the law school.  Scott's legacy truly lives on in the many dedicated lawyers whom he set on their paths in his contracts class.  God rest him. Bob Stenger

Sylvia, Patricia and family,

Scott was a mentor for me as I began my career as a law professor at UL Brandeis School of Law.  He was the first person who came to my office to congratulate me after I received a favorable tenure vote from the faculty. 

I will always remember Scott with appreciation and with fondness.  

My best wishes to you and Patricia and to the rest of the family.  Scott will be missed.
