He was a Marine having served his country during the Korean Conflict with 1st Marine Division 2nd Batallian in the Marine 3rd regiment in a tank unit with Dog Company. He retired from and was a member of Teamsters Local 89 and a member of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents James Brent and LaVada Mae Butner; his brothers Robert Charles, Michael Clyde, James “Bud” and his sister Mildred Bowman; his son William and his daughter Mary Anne Butner.
Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Angela Gentile Butner, his son Patrick (Kelly) and his daughter Donna Stelly (Karl); his grandchildren Natalie Shaw (Donald), Jaime Roederer ( Stephen), Nicolas Butner (Kate) who played a huge part in his care plus five other grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Bill is survived by many nieces and nephews including Reba McGaha (Tommy), Alice Shuff (Steve), Paul Schuchard (Carolyn) who were always there when needed. Bill is also survived by one sister Opal Lee
Bill’s wishes were to be cremated. The family will receive guests at Arch L. Heady, 3601 Taylor Boulevard, from 2-8 pm on Sunday with a prayer service at 7 pm. We will celebrate Bill’s life with a service at the funeral home on Monday at 11 am and process to Calvary Cemetery where he will be buried with full military honors.
