

Bill was born in Detroit, Michigan, son of Bearl and Lorena Stewart. He grew up in the small town of Burr Oak, Michigan. He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Business in 1970. His working career led him to Illinois, Oklahoma and finally to Louisville, KY. Here, he met his future wife, Linda, and they married in July 1979. Four years later, daughter Kristin, arrived to complete their family.
Bill spent most of his working career as an Insurance Claims Adjustor, here in the Louisville area.
Bill’s passion was airplanes which led him to obtain his private pilot’s license when he turned 16, working on the weekends to earn the money needed to pay for the lessons. He purchased his own plane in early 1970 and spent many happy hours in the air.
He also enjoyed building and flying RCA airplanes and was a member of the Indiana RC Model Club for many years.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Bearl and Lorena, his brother, Harry Strauss, his sister Elsie Mestelle, and his step-father, Charles Maybourne.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Linda, and daughter, Kristin; his sister, Gladys Shumway (Pete) of Tekonsha, Michigan; his sister in-law, Millie Strauss, of Phoenix, Arizona, and his four nieces, Lorrie, Carrie, Shelly and Sandy and their families; cousin, Eula (Marvin) Richardson of Georgetown; many extended family, cherished friends, and his loyal canine companions, Sugar and Spice and feline buddies, Ally and Mikey.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at 12 pm on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, with visitation from 10 am until time of service.
