William K. "Bill" Carrico "Pawpaw" 96, went home to his heavenly Father on Sunday, August 9th, in his hometown of Louisville, Ky., surrounded by his loving family. Bill was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to so many. He was born in Louisville on September 8th, 1929 to Joseph Flaget and Hattie Cooper Carrico. He graduated from St Xavier High School in 1947 and went on to serve in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Bill married the love of his life, Joan Habenstein, on September 10th 1955. He retired from the Ford Motor Company in 1989. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years. Bill was a man of deep faith, giving so much to others in need. Upon retiring he joined a group of fellow golfers and they became known as "the Senile Sixteen." Up until he recently became ill he enjoyed weekly poker games with a special group of guys. He also enjoyed going to the gym several times a week, which he always referred to as "the spa." He was an avid runner in his early years, never missing a mini marathon. He was a devoted parishioner of Epiphany Catholic Church where he would pray for anyone in need of prayers. Everyone knew when he prayed for them great things were going to happen. Many would seek him out for his prayer skills, because he truly had connections. Sunday family dinners and summer vacations with the whole family were always special to him. Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Joan; parents, Flaget and Hattie Carrico; brother's, Joseph, Robert and Donald Carrico. He is survived by his children, Steve Carrico (Robin), Shelly Vissman (Dan), Patsy Mudd, Janet Hoffmann, and Donna Smith (Dave); grandchildren, Cindy Miller (Travis), Joni Reesor (Clayton), Samantha Helton (Colin), Dana Clark (Mike), Jamie Watts (Mike), Hillary Hoffmann, Victor Hoffmann (Shannon), Jacob Smith and Nicole Smith; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Cameron, Jaylen, Dylan, Jace, Alayna, Ethan, Adley and Laney; his brother, Lawrence "Coleman" Carrico.
Visitation will take place at Arch L Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd., Louisville, Ky 40218 on Monday, August 17, 2026, from 4-7pm.
