Darwin, affectionately known as Dodge, was born in Russellville, Alabama but spent most of his years in Louisville. After graduating from Male High School, he went on to become a bricklayer and was a founding member of Hendrix & Sons Masonry. He proudly pointed out buildings he and his brothers and dad worked on over the years. Dad said he liked to stand back and look at a completed building to admire the art they had created.
Along the way, he met Carolyn, who he always called his "Bride" even after more than 50 years of marriage. They lovingly raised three children together.
Dodge enjoyed fishing and hunting. In our younger days we spent a lot of time at "the lot" growing, tending, and harvesting a large family garden with all of dads siblings, their children, and parents.
After a debilitating injury on the job, Dodge completed a retraining program through Goodwill Industries for IT work. After several disappointments and setbacks he landed at U of L. There he found his niche and remained there until he retired.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2025 from 4-8PM and funeral service will be 10AM on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home 4400 Bardstown Road Louisville, Kentucky 40218.
Darwin will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
