Yvonne (Abma) Fritze

Yvonne was born in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, on December 30, 1939, to the late Geert Abma, an immigrant from the Netherlands, and Bessie Abma of Tousey, Kentucky. As a child of a military family, she lived in many parts of the country before settling in Louisville. She graduated from Southern High School and attended the University of Kentucky before marrying her loving and faithful husband of 64 years, Robert “Bob” Fritze.

Yvonne was a member of Larchmont Church of God, where she and her husband met. She served the church in many roles over the years, often using her creative talents to decorate the sanctuary for holidays and special events. Yvonne was the owner of the Happy Heart Quilt Shop for many years, where she made lifelong friends with her quilting community. She enjoyed planning and attending her annual quilting retreats and won many ribbons for her entries in the Kentucky State Fair.

Yvonne was an avid sports fan who cheered for her beloved University of Louisville Cardinals and, in later years, the Indiana University Hoosiers. An active gardener, she delighted in growing flowers and creating habitats for hummingbirds and butterflies. She shared her love of cooking and baking with family and friends and enjoyed traveling to Mexico with her husband and loved ones. Above all, she treasured supporting her grandchildren’s many school events, activities, and interests.

In addition to her parents, Geert and Bessie, she was preceded in death by her sister, Carole Luther; her brother, Loren Abma; and her grandson, Sawyer Dott. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Bob; her children, Renetta Carrier (Brian), Stacy Fritze Dott (Bob), and Brett Fritze (Selina); and her grandchildren, Emily Carrier, Ethan Carrier, Kai Fritze, and Leo Fritze, as well as many other dear family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 22nd, 2026 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home, 7410 Westport Road in Louisville. An additional visitation will be held on Saturday, May 23rd, 2026 from 9:00am until 10:00am.

A Funeral service will be held at 10:00am Saturday, May 23rd, 2026, at Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home, 7410 Westport Road in Louisville. A private burial for family to follow the funeral service.
