Wilma was born in Elm Creek, Nebraska on August 16, 1929, to Oliver and Mary (Carmen) Mays. She attended school in Elm Creek, Nebraska, graduating from Elm Creek High School in 1947. She married Gene Miller of Elm Creek on November 12, 1948. They were married for 62 years. Wilma worked in her mother-in-law’s café for several years and later at Baldwin’s in Kearney. She retired from Baldwin’s after 30 years of service. In her younger years she enjoyed playing the piano and going to barn dances. In later years she liked to play cards and work puzzles. She belonged to the Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney and later the First Christian Church in Elm Creek. Being near her family was most important to her, she moved to Loveland in 2011 to be near them after Gene’s death.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers: Leroy and Virgil Mays and sister, Gladys Muncie.
Wilma is survived by her 4 daughters: Linda (Lonnie) McCormick, Susan (Dennis) Thiers, Patricia (Riley) Hinojosa and Jo Ellen (Mike) Baker all of Loveland, CO; sister, Brenda Fisher of Aurora, CO; brother, Robert Atkinson of San Antonio, TX; 2 sisters-in-law: Lois Ochsenhirt (Willi) of UT and Barbara Czimer of MO; 6 grandchildren: Nathan (Jyl) Ourada, Angela Levin, Andrea Ourada, Dustin (Mary) McCormick, Christopher (Katie) Hinojosa, Julie (Ben) Augustine; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service will be at the First Christian church in Elm Creek, Nebraska on Sept. 30, 2019, at 10:30 am.
