Albert B. Stevens passed away peacefully in his sleep, Thursday November 22, 2018 at age 92. Albert was born on January 7, 1926 in Longmont, Colorado, to Bert and Frances Stevens and enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing as a young boy in the hills around Lyons, CO. He joined the Navy at age 17 during WWII, serving onboard the USS Lang in the South Pacific.
After his Naval service he worked for Fairbank Morse in their locomotive service department for 6 1/2 years. On March 17, 1952 he married Pearl Rose Morris “Mickey”. They moved to Loveland from Salt Lake City, Utah in 1953. He joined the Loveland Fire Department in 1954 as a volunteer, and in 1958 was hired as a paid Lt. Engineer. In 1971 he was appointed Captain and in 1973 became Loveland's first Fire Marshal. During his time on the Fire Department he also helped start the Dive Rescue Team and several other first time programs. He retired from the Fire department in 1985 after 31 years of service.
He accomplished much in his life; He was a life member of the Loveland Elks club. He served as President of the "Sweetheart Sam's RV club and also as Assistant State Director of the Northeast Good Sam's RV club. One of his fondness accomplishments was climbing Longs Peak.
He was named Employee of the Year - City of Loveland in 1984 and Fireman of the year in 1985. He served as the Loveland Corn Roast Grand Marshall in 2008. He attended and was a long time member of the Loveland First Congregational Church, serving on Board of Trustees. He was selected to go to Washington D.C. on one of the early WWII Honor Flights.
He loved life, people and had a special fondness for animals. He loved and looked forward to frequent visits in his later years by Mocha, Shasta and Bailey, Karen's three dogs.
He is survived by his daughter Karen Walston (and husband Rick ) of Nunn, Colo: a step-son Dick Morris (and wife Melba) of West Jordon, Utah; and his sister Lois June Sandstead of Ft Morgan, Colo. Plus (6) Grandchildren, (15) Great Grandchildren and (28) Great, Great Grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews that affectionately called him Uncle Buddy.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Bert and Frances Stevens, wife Mickey of 55 years, sisters; Maxine and Betty, brother Donald, Step-son Bob, Grandsons Cory and Steven and great, great granddaughter, Taylor.
Memorials are suggested in Albert’s name to benefit Abode Hospice of Colorado.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at First Congregational Church of Loveland, with interment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Longmont. Visitation will be Tuesday at Allnutt Funeral Service in Loveland from 4-7 p.m.
