At 10:45 pm on Monday, January 7, 2019, Beatrice “Betty” Forbes Todd left these earthly bonds to join the other Angels in heaven who love to play cards, listen to bagpipes, sing, and laugh. She was gently “shown the way to go home” because her body – not her spirit – was “tired and wanted to go to bed”.
Betty was born in Boston, MA on August 26, 1921 to Scots immigrants, Donald and Beatrice Ligertwood Forbes. At 97 years, Betty had lived through extremes in history but was always optimistic and brave. As the only child of immigrants she experienced a hard life during the depression, love and loyalty during World War II when she was taken from the urban life of Boston to the wilds of New Mexico as the working wife of a Manhattan Project Chemist, and was a part of the rebuilding of America while raising four rambunctious children and now successful adults. After the kids were raised, she returned to work for Foremost McKesson Research and Development in Dublin, California. In retirement she loved to travel the world but swimming off the coast of Maui, Hawaii was her favorite place on earth. And, as a true Scot, she could pinch a penny. The last ten years of her life were spent in Colorado with family and new friends.
Pre-deceased by her husband, Donald Albert Todd, Betty is survived by her four children David (Sandy), Donna Malcevski (Igor), Joyce Kinde (Dennis), and James (Cyndie), seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Godspeed Mom and Grandma. We miss you and we’ll continue to sing and appreciate this life from the many lessons and memories you gave us. Thank you.
