David S. Knechtges MD

David Knechtges M.D. passed away peacefully on August 2nd in Loveland, Colorado from a six-and-an-half-year-long battle with fronto-temporal dementia. He was deeply loved by his family and will be remembered for his integrity, humor, intelligence, kindness, and love of God and life.

Dave was born on April 3rd, 1960 in Elyria, Ohio to Angie and Jack Knechtges. He graduated from Midview High School, then moved on to study at Ohio State University School of Pharmacy, and he completed his education at the Ohio State University School of Medicine in two years of independent study. He met his wife, Lois, during his last year of medical school, and they had thirty-eight wonderful years together.

Dave was devoted to his vocation as a gifted internal medicine physician. His first job was at Oberlin Clinic, then he moved on to Blue cross blue shield, and after that to Southwest General Health Center. He then spent seventeen years at several Cleveland Clinic satellites in northern Ohio.

He and his family relocated to Loveland, Colorado in 2013, and he worked for Kaiser Permanente in Greeley for six years. Everywhere he worked throughout his career, his patients lovingly called him “Doctor K’’.

Dave’s passion from an early age was the outdoors. Of all the outdoor activities that brought him joy, he most enjoyed skiing, hiking, and camping. He loved traveling, museums, art, movies, and music. Dave loved his family and friends deeply, and even as his speech and abilities declined, he continued to show the warmth and positive attitude that made him so beloved.

Dave was preceded in death by his father Jack. He is survived by his wife Lois (Wolboldt), daughter Anne, son Greg, mother Angie (Grafton, O.H.), sister Karen Machovina (N. Ridgeville, O.H.), sister Judy Knechtges (Cary, N.C.), and many beloved extended family members.

A Memorial Visitation will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Reception Hall, 708 Erie St, Grafton, Ohio, on August 21, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 708 Erie St, Grafton, Ohio, on August 22, 2026, at 11:00 am with a luncheon to follow immediately after in the church hall.
