The Thompson family moved to Ellendale ND in 1954, where Devona attended school and graduated from Ellendale High School in 1968. While in high school, Devona met an ‘older’ college boy, and married him on November 8, 1968.
Ron and Devona lived in numerous communities in SD, ND, and Wyoming as Ron pursued his career as a school music teacher. While living in Devils Lake, ND, Devona graduated with an LPN degree and spent many years in various health care positions. Devona and Ron were married for 56 years until Ron passed away in 2024.
Devona is survived by her children Tami Shotts (Bruce), Chris (Mariah), and Nate (Tracy). Her grandchildren are Rebekah Reifschneider (Mitch), Roman Schneider, Maddie, Jake, Marissa Hinchey (Austin), Jack Vagott (Shannon), Luke Vagott (Savannah Hepworth), Adeline, Elise Kratochvil, Keenan Kratochvil, Haleigh Heisler (Jordan), and Kira Shotts (Kayla), as well as four great-grandchildren, Dominic, Payton and Henry and Felix. She is survived by her siblings, Tom Thompson (Karla) of Moorhead MN and Andy Thompson (Debbie) of California.
In addition to Ron, Devona was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Donna Rae and Denise Van Sickle and her brother-in-law Ken Van Sickle.
A Celebration of Life Open House will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 12, 2026 at the home of Tami Shotts, 4092 Golf Vista Drive, Loveland, CO 80537. Food and drinks will be provided.
