Dean was born in Olin, Iowa to the late Walter and Grace McCammant Blunk. The family moved to Colorado when Dean was three years old. Dean joined the US Navy in 1946 and became a radio operator. He continued to serve his country in the reserves until 1964 and retired from US West phone company after 32 years.
Dean's love of trains was obvious as he would share many pictures of them with his friends.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Margie Blunk; daughters, Patti Clouse (Joe Clouse), Barbara Samudovsky, Sherlee Briere, Dianne Secord (Bill Secord); stepchildren, Brian Blunk, Brenda Blunk-Labarge (Scott Labarge); multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Steven Blunk; brothers, Robert and Wayne; and sister, Shirley Rockwell.
