Erin was born on February 7, 1977, in Arvada, Colorado. But that doesn’t matter. Because wherever she happened to be born, she would have come out dancing. Erin was the perfect example of unconditional happiness; she walked into a room and her presence filled every hole there was to fill. She knew no stranger.
When I think of Erin, I think of peace. I think of home. I think of dirty dishes in the sink and of meticulous notebooks filled with dreams of another life. I think of a deep mahogany smell and of the small park near her first home in Downtown Denver.
Erin had her BA in English from Colorado State University and not only was she a brilliant storyteller and writer, she also had a talent for teenage-angsty journal entries. She was the perfect balance of educated woman and warm-hearted six-year-old girl. She was everything a person could want to be.
She spent her early years as a member of the Peace Corps in Russia, and working odd end jobs looking for something deeper; something that left her feeling the same way she was able to make others feel - pure joy. Along came Sean Patrick, her true soulmate, and they were married in January of 2004. Then given the title of mother, her son, Hunter, was born in 2007 with a heart of gold. And then came Emerson Kathleen in 2012, the spitting image of sweet Erin, yet always the one to test her patience. Before anything Erin was a mother, and her children are the strongest and the most resilient people we know - a true force.
She came from a line of strong women, and upheld that legacy with the most powerful repertoire. She is survived by her mother and step-father, Karen and Patrick DeMarco, her father, Craig Smith, her older sister, Kristen Jahrman, her four nieces, her children and husband, and her step siblings, Steven and Erin DeMarco.
May Erin rest in peace, and may her bright smile live on through her loved ones.
