

After a yearlong battle with cancer, we are heartbroken to announce the passing of Gerald ‘Jerry’ Yakel of Johnstown, CO. He died at the age of 69 on Friday, November 18, 2022 at Pathways hospice in Fort Collins, CO. He was born on July, 14th 1953 in Longmont, CO to Harvey and Joan (Gehringer) Yakel. He was a 1972 graduate from Longmont High School, where he then went on to earn his A&P certification. He then took his career to work with his dad Harvey Yakel, as an auto mechanic for 14 years at Yakel’s Auto Repair. He then worked a few years as a mechanic for Boulder County. In 1994, he moved to the City of Fort Collins where he worked for 28 years and finished his career at the Water Reclamation Department. He married Jodi (Kinoshita) Yakel on November 4th, 1978, in Greeley, CO.
Jerry enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, working on cars and his family. He is survived by his mother Joan Yakel, wife Jodi Yakel, son Jesse Yakel (Katy), granddaughter Jordyn Yakel, grandson Jaxon Yakel; daughter Janae Bredehoft (Brandon), grandson Owen, granddaughters Palmer Bredehoft and Layla Bredehoft; sisters Sharon Taylor, Patty Yakel-Kuhel, brother Steve Yakel (Erin); and many nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father Harvey Yakel and Brother-in-law Gerry Kuhel.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Pathways Hospice Fort Collins. A Celebration of Life will be held on December 7th, 2022 from 2-5pm at Mash Lab Brewery in Windsor.
