Gordon was born on September 23rd, 1939, in Sidney, Iowa. At one week old he met his parents Ovid and Nellie Walston. As a small boy he lived on a farm in South Iowa, then moved to Tavern, Silver City, and Red Oak; he attended several schools along the way. In 1949 his family moved to Colorado where he attended Washington Elementary then Loveland High School (which is now Bill Reed Middle School). In his eighth-grade year he met Ruth at the Nazarene Church, he would later marry Ruth in that same church on September 16th, 1956, at 2pm.
Gordon began working at 9 years old, setting pins at a bowling alley where he was paid per pin. As a young adult he had several jobs at gas stations, a newspaper route for The Denver Post, and even built cabinets at a trailer factory. He went on to have several careers, working for Hensel Phelps Construction where he helped build the Denver Museum, Denver planetarium, Stapleton Airport, and a library in Greeley. After retiring from construction, he went on to work for the City of Loveland as an auto mechanic. After retiring from The City of Loveland he then went to work at Thompson School District as a school bus driver.
Gordon was most known for his love of hunting. From the Western Slope to the Pawnee Grasslands, he hunted deer, elk and pronghorn for most of his life with his last deer and elk being hunted in Unit 20 two years ago. At times there were up to four generations on the hill or in the garage enjoying the process of providing meat for the family. Gordon also enjoyed gardening. He loved growing tomatoes for canning to enjoy throughout the winter and growing pumpkins for his grandkids to carve in the fall.
