Jim was born in Boulder, Colorado on February 16th, 1939 to James H & Dorothy M Hinshaw. After graduating from Boulder High, he attended CSU where he met his soulmate, Janice Kay Shoffner. They were married New Year's Day 1960. Jim entered the Air Force and trained as a crypto communications repairman. During this time their sons James Clinton Hinshaw and Jay Michael Hinshaw were born.
In 1965 the family returned to Colorado where he worked for Public Service. Jim went on to Rocky Flats where he started his career as a journeyman electrician. In 1969 their daughter, Julie Anne was born.
He retired from Boulder Valley School District after 27 years as an electrician; a job he took great pride in and enjoyed the friendships he made.
In 1980, Jim and his wife with the help of family and friends built their mountain dream home near Allenspark where they enjoyed 34 years in the beauty of the Rockies. They moved to a patio home in Berthoud in 2014.
Jim loved hiking, camping, & fishing with family and friends all over the western US. He was very interested in western history and even went on a wagon trek along the Oregon Trail in Nebraska with Jan and friends. On their camping trips, Jim & Jan loved to go to National Parks and Monuments, and visit museums. As a retiree he completely restored 2 antique vehicles.
Jim is survived by the love of his life, Janice, 3 children, Jim C, Jay, & Julie; 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. There will get-together in the mountains to celebrate his life to be announced at a later date.
People who were lucky enough to know Jim were blessed. Whether someone was a friend, neighbor, relative or co-worker, Jim was the same person. He was kind, ever-smiling, positive, fair and caring person with a gentle soul. His spirit will always reside in the Colorado mountains.
