James was a mechanic who was especially good with anything electrical. He had a knack for figuring out how things worked and how to fix them, and he brought that same attention to detail to everything he did. He loved building, from model cars to planes and rockets, and he never rushed the small stuff.
He cared deeply for his family and had a sense of humor all his own, very different from most people's. He was a passionate gamer and a gun enthusiast, and he loved riding his motorcycle, especially with his friends. James was fiercely loyal to the people in his life. He had a big heart and big opinions, and he was never shy about sharing either.
Above all, James loved his wife, April Shaw, and took care of her.
James is survived by his mother, Sharon Holbrooks; his sisters, Beverly Farnsworth and Jennell Hallenbeck; and his brothers, Bradley Holbrooks and Jonathan Holbrooks. He was preceded in death by his father, Butch Holbrooks, and his wife, April Shaw.
A Celebration of James' Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2026 at the Clubhouse at Cloverleaf Communities, 4412 E. Mulberry St., Fort Collins, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Realities for Children, 308 East County Road 30, Fort Collins, CO 80525 or at www.realitiesforchildren.com.
